Photoshop and I had a little bit of fun after I had a little bit of fun making putting together some fun cookies for tonight. Putting together because I didn’t actually make any of the ingredients. It’s a bit of a rarity for me, since I’ve been known to want to grow the wheat to mill the flour to bake the bread to make a sandwich… Amazing how things can change when one is in their mid-70s…

I think what got me going with this recipe was it listed store-bought ingredients. I did originally think I was going to bake the cookies and make the frosting – I always planned on buying the marshmallows – but I saw pre-baked cookies and then saw the canned frosting – something I have never actually purchased in my life – and succumbed… Do note that I will very likely never purchase canned frosting, again.

The concept for a Halloween dessert came because we’re off to dinner and to trick-or-treat with our very-soon-to-be 6-year old great niece and great nephew. They are the absolute perfect age for Halloween – and a spooky dessert is right up their age-group.

I did the typical search for Halloween desserts and just about every page had Vampire Cookies – from the same source. I figured it meant I should make them.

Vampire Cookies

From Delish.com

  • 1 tube chocolate chip cookie dough
  • 1 can vanilla frosting
  • red food coloring
  • mini marshmallows
  • slivered almonds

Preheat oven to 350°. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll cookie dough into 1 ½” balls and place on baking sheets. Bake until golden, about 12 minutes. Let cool completely then cut in half.

Add a few drops of red food coloring into vanilla frosting and stir until smooth. Spread a thin layer of red frosting onto each cookie half.

Place mini marshmallows around the round edges of half of the halves. Place the remaining halves on top, then stick a slivered almond on each side to create fangs.

They are totally silly and totally fun! I must admit that I had my doubts – but they really did come together easily and actually looked like the pictures!

I do think that if I make them again – a distinct possibility – I will make them using my Pumpkin Whoopie Pie recipe.

I think the kids will like them, tonight…
