If you need to make something that is already kinda decadent into something even more decadent… I’m your man!
Victor’s Orange Curd became a Chocolate Ganache Orange Curd Tart for dessert, last night!
It was pretty yumlicious!
No real recipe – it was made with basic household staples – well… basic in our house, anyway…
- puff pastry
- chocolate
- heavy cream
The three items all came from Trader Joe’s – my former place of employment and the original “TJ” part of this website.
Their puff pastry is all-butter – much like Dufour but at a third of the price, the chocolate was their 72% chocolate chips, and the heavy cream was their shelf-stable cream only available around the holidays. Knowing first-hand their seasonal product proclivities, I stock up.

I rolled out the pastry, fit it into a tart pan, and baked it with pie weights (dried beans I’ve used for years). I then made a ganache of 1 cup of heavy cream and 16 ounces of chocolate chips.
When the crust cooled, I spread about half of the chocolate into the tart shell – there’s more in the ‘fridge awaiting another fabulous use!
And when that firmed up, I spread it with the orange curd.
The chocolate and the orange really played well, together… We decided for just the two of us that it was already over-the-top-enough. If we were serving it to guests, there may have been a whipped cream with candied orange slices or something to ramp it up a notch.
Now… what to do with the leftover ganache?!?
