I do love our Friday Dinners with Phoebe and Nancy.
It seems everyone is busy, has appointments or obligations – or has to work – but Friday has become the day we can get together and catch up on life. We rotate back and forth, but the date isn’t chiseled in stone. If one or the other has other plans, we catch up on another day.
Phoebe and Nancy are both great cooks, and Victor and I love to cook, so we all know it’s going to be good. We all keep it reasonable – it’s not about the latest food trend or some such stuff – it’s about good food and good company. Relaxed meals not high-stress affairs.
Last night was the perfect example. Phoebe made glazed pork tenderloins with a pan sauce of drippings, a bit of butter, garlic, lemon juice, heavy cream, dijon mustard, thyme, and a bit of S&P – served atop roasted brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes,
And a loaf of bread covered with a cheese concoction I didn’t copy down – but it was ridiculously good.
A couple of cocktails, a couple of hands of Skip-bo, and ice cream cones for dessert.
Great conversation and home by 9. Getting civilized in our dotage.
